Gobbles and Gifts

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!
How grateful I am to see another thanksgiving.
To feel, give and have lots of love with my Bigdogg. (DIRTY MINDS!!)
To teach traditions through love with our three boys.
To wake on Thanksgiving day ready to begin the tradition of parade watching, football sneering, and today, snow!!

Snow is falling outside as I type this post. It looks as if someone opened a sweet softened bag of powdered sugar, and slowly is sifting it out onto the warm ground. Light and Fluffy unlike my belly will be, later on today. No, the snow is not sticking to the ground as temperatures a few days ago were at 65 degrees, but still for those of us with windows in our kitchen, it sure makes for a beautiful scene to see as we spend our day creating our traditions and baking a turkey in our own special ways.

Here are the ways I can think of how to make a turkey, did I miss one?:

Traditional Roast Turkey (unstuffed)
Traditional Roast Turkey (stuffed) -my tradition

(HEY LOOK, a STUFFED LEFT HANDED Turkey!)

Oven Cooking Bag Method
Aluminum Foil Wrapped Method
Microwave Oven Method
Braised Method
Covered Roasting Pan
New Orleans Fried Turkey

Grilled Turkey
Marinated Turkey
Brine Method

THAT'S HOT!

Spiced Apple Cider method
Brined Turkey
Jerk Method (Get U'r mind out of the gutter! To think I almost put a picture up of a man getting caught with his hand up the turkeys tushie.)

(Not a way to prepare a turkey, but just a side of some Texas Toast dedicated to my friend that gave new meaning to the term, Asshat a month or so ago! Here's hoping all is well in NM)

How do you like your turkey?

"Eaten, thank you!"

We will be heading to my parents house to feast on all things homemade and special. Made with love and tradition, I will be with my brothers, Grandma, parents and my own special 4. My sisters and their family will be with their in laws (us married folks alternate with our in law families to be fair when it comes to sharing holidays). My Aunts and Uncles whom I love so dearly, and their beautiful family will each have their own special traditions today. And even though my cousins and I can't all be together, I am thankful that we can all have love and compassion and fun cousin nights! My love to my friends, readers included in that wish, how thankful I am to have all of you in my life. Much love today and much to be thankful for, and at 4:00pm as I bow my head in prayer, I will say special prayers for all of you!

Special Blessings today!
But first, have you ever thought of how the Turkey feels? Here are some morsels of turkey talk you could have at the table today:

  • Turkeys can have heart attacks.
  • Groups of turkeys, sometimes known as a rafter of turkeys, would drop dead when the Air Force was conducting test runs and breaking the sound barrier nearby.

  • Apparently turkeys can drown if they look up when it is raining.

  • Excessive turkey breeding has caused turkey breasts to grow so enormous that the turkeys sometimes fall over.
  • The Pilgrim Fathers would not eat lobster because they thought it was a giant insect.

How were turkeys named?

  • It may have come from the noise a wild turkey makes when it become frightened: it sounds like 'turk - turk – turk.'

  • The original inhabitants of America called the bird a 'firkee.'
  • Christopher Columbus, the explorer, took some of the wild turkeys of North America back to Europe. People enjoyed eating the meat. It is possible that traders along the Mediterranean casts , known as Turkes, may have brought some of these birds hence they came to be called 'turkey birds.'

  • In Spain, the turkey was often referred to as Indian fowl, an allusion which is repeated in the French 'dindon' formed with d'Inde which means 'from India'.

  • Some say Columbus thought the turkey was part of the peacock family. So he decided to call them 'tuka' which is the word for peacock in Tamil, a language spoken in southern India and Sri Lanka.

  • The wishbone is a tradition of Thanksgiving. Allow the wishbone to dry. Then, two people grasp each end of the wishbone. After making a silent wish, they pull it away. Whoever gets the joint portion, gets their wish. This is the same at Christmas in the UK.

May you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving day today.

I leave you with this joke suitable for a day like today:

The pro football team had just finished their daily practice session when a large turkey came strutting onto the field. While the players gazed in amazement, the turkey walked up to the head coach and demanded a tryout. Everyone stared in silence as the turkey caught pass after pass and ran right through the defensive line. When the turkey returned to the sidelines, the coach shouted, "You're terrific!!! Sign up for the season, and I'll see to it that you get a huge bonus." "Forget the bonus," the turkey said, "All I want to know is, does the season go past Thanksgiving Day?"

Gobble, Gobble! You know my hubby has a ring tone on his cell that is called jive turkey and a turkey gobbles to this funky, jazzy beat... too funny and of course it's only set to go off if I call!

I came to see you today and I've laughed, I've cried, been amazed by a bikini tanned turkey, and learned that turkeys have big breasts. Wow.

Thanks for the laughs and tears, Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello blogger buddy. Did you happen to see on the news the group of turkeys who somehow got loose and guess where they ended up at? Kentucky Fried Chicken! They were taken to a sanctuary so they can live long and happy lives.

Hey CRUSTY!!!! I'm shoutin' out up in here! Worried about you and I hope you are fine. It is just so soon after the surgery and I got worried you had to go back into the hospital. If not, then slap me silly for being silly and a worry wart. Take care friend.
