We had our usual minor snow fall last night. Just over 10inches. Which is nothing.
Nothing that we're not used to.
Now compared to our poor Eastern pals, they're not used to any of it, nor the crazy amounts that they've been getting.
I think when President Obama left Chicago, he brought some of Chicago with him. This is, after all, his first full Winter season in the White House.
So, we had the winter storm warning last night. Apparently the possibly foot of snow was to really increase in inches over night...
At 3:59am Brian and I were woken by a loud rumbling. Like a large amount of snowplow trucks were heard rumbling towards our home. Getting closer and closer, and shaking our entire house as the trucks moved closer. Even Marina was growling! Our mirrors were shaking and in a matter of less then 20sec it was over.
So we went back to bed, after walking Ben back into his room, as he too, was woken by the noise.
Much to our surprise, this morning we were informed that the "noise" was actually an earthquake.
In Illinois?
Yep, you read it right.
School remained in session.
So, we get almost a foot of snow with 20mph (that's nothing for the windy city) winds.
An earthquake wakes up many..
and the schools still remained open.
It took one thing to prevent the walk to school.
That one thing would be a bug.
A teeny tiny bug that brings on fevers and tummy aches.
We may not have been stopped by large amounts of snow, or a brief but bizarre earthquake, but this little tiny bug definitely caused two of our boys to have to stay home from school today.
Could be worse.

We got 10" of the white stuff...so they say. It looks more like 15" to me. Visibility was so bad and the road crews could not keep up....they actually CLOSED the schools....that HARDLY EVER happens in this great State. But, like you say, we are used to it in these parts. But an Earthquake in Illinois? What is going on.....all the abuse we've done to this poor planet is finally taking its toll I fear.
Ahhh....yet another strange malady. How odd, an earthquake? Kind of freaky, aren't they?

About 10 years ago, we had a series of small earthquakes here in MD. It took us a while to figure out what was actually happening! I can't imagine what the larger quakes must be like!
I was born in IN, my Great Grandfather talked about the earthquakes there and in in IL when he was a young boy.
There will be more, as the Earth is starting to tilt in the other direction.
