GIFT CARDS CHAPTER 11!

Since it is that time of year, it might be helpful..... I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January 1.

There is no law preventing them from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as Bankrupcy Planning. Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be cautious about.

I wouldn't have a problem because when I get a gift card I go and buy something right away! :-)

Really though, thanks for the warning.

WOW, I've heard about stores going out of business on the news but when you look at that list it really seems scary to have that many retailers in that bad a shape - YIKES!

I got an e-mail last week with the same message and was very glad that my husband and I decided not to buy gift cards this year. We've been shopping around town buying actualy gifts. It takes more time and effort, but it's been fun! And as I was reading your blog, I heard "Living in Oblivion" playing in your Playlist and started cracking up. I remember dancing to that with my older sister when we were kids!

Seeing all these stores shutting down is frightening too! Have a happy Thanksgiving despite it all!
